The Wonder Spotlight

Skorpeskolen Private School and Design Thinking

Skorpeskolen Private School, located in Helsingor, Denmark, takes design thinking as its philosophical basis, with the goal of graduating students who are inclined and equipped to dream big and create the future. From Skorpeskolen, we embrace several practices.

Innovation and opportunities to make real contributions are built into the school structure. The administration empowers teachers and students to be innovative by welcoming their ideas, encouraging them to take risks, and viewing mistakes as valuable teachers. Students take part in the care of the school as well as each other through daily chores and special campus jobs to which they can apply. Teachers look for opportunities for students to partner with the broader local community on real-world projects that add value.

The regular daily schedule includes time for the pursuit of individual interests, for developing calm focus, and for relaxed social time. Students have opportunities to discover and develop their own interests through exploration, practice, projects, and sharing with the community. The weekly schedule allows time for contemplative, quiet practices and for developing the ability to focus on a project for a sustained amount of time. Every day, administrators, teachers, and students enjoy each other’s company during lunch, an unhurried meal cooked on-site using fresh, local ingredients.
